His gravestone is next to those of his parents and reads"Alanson Pierson, son of Charles and Abigail N. Pierson, a volunteer in the 14th., Regiment, of the N.Y. State Militia, and had served in fifteen engagements, when he received a wound in the head at the Battle of Antietam, M.D. and died true to his country and his own soul, aged 21 years and 4 months"
