CAPTAIN EASON DEAD

Captain John W. Eason died at the Memorial Hospital in Brooklyn, Monday morning May 4, aged 59 years. He had been in usual health up to last summer when he became afflicted with heart trouble. About two months ago jaundice set in, but the Captain kept at his post as long as he was able. His color at that time was strongly indicative of the disease from which he was suffering. Subsequently he was prostrated by kidney and liver troubles and those in turn were succeeded by dropsy. Three weeks ago he was obliged to remain at his home, 255 Steuben Street Brooklyn, and then took to his bed. By advice of his physician, he was taken to the hospital on Thursday last where he submitted to an operation, which proved of no avail. His family were at his bedside when he passed away.

From a lengthy article in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, published under a portrait of the Captain we take the following which will be of interest:

"Quite a number of years ago Captain Eason came to Gilbertsville with his wife and brought the John Mayne property near the grist mill. This they remodeled and greatly improved, fitting up for themselves a fine summer home, and the family have since passed much of the time here. The Captain spent his summer vacations with us and had made the acquaintance of many of the towns-people. All had learned to like the man. He was a social, kind hearted, generous fellow, with an ever pleasant greeting for all, and everyone was glad when he could be here."

His widow and family have much sympathy in their great loss.

The funeral occurred in Brooklyn and the remains were brought to Gilbertsville to-day, Thursday, reaching here about 6:30 p.m., and placed in the receiving vault at Brookside Cemetery.
