ABOUT THE 14TH BROOKLYN COMPANY E

The 14th Brooklyn Company E. was founded in 1996. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the original 14th Brooklyn from the American Civil War period. However our research does include the history of the 14th in other campaigns, such as the SpanAM, WWI, WWII, etc.

We are registered with the state of New York as an educational non-profit corporation. Our mission is to educate the public about the life of the common soldier of the American Civil War through a combination of living history demonstrations and annual battle reenactments. We also study the military drill manuals of the era as well as practice period maneuvers and battle tactics. Such maneuvers and tactics include skirmishing; manual of arms, bayonett drill and battalion movements.

We offer an adopt a soldier program in which by making a small donation you will be able to learn about and carry on the memory of an original soldier of the 14th Brooklyn. Proceeds from these adoptions are used for gravesite restoration and other programs that preserve the history of the 14th. We wear museum quality reproductions of the original uniform of the regiment and we take great pride in what we do. We have adopted a constitution and hold annual membership meetings. During these meetings we discuss relevant business pertaining to company affairs as well as hold elections for our president; board of trustees and field staff.

Our organization is involved in genealogical research pertaining to members of the original regiment. We have located and restored the graves of many of the original 14th soldiers; some of who's graves were so damaged as to not be recognizable or in some cases may not have stones at all. We accept public donations to help in these efforts. Any money that is donated goes directly towards restoring soldier gravesites.
